The Emporis Skyscraper Award was set up by a German global real estate research institute in 2000. Each year it selects one skyscraper from among the 100-plus meters tall newly constructed structures for the award in recognition of its aesthetics and outstanding functionality.
Shanghai Tower stood out from more than 300 candidates that competed in 2015 and came first in the Top 10 after a review by an international panel of experts.
The experts cited the following reasons for honoring Shanghai Tower:
Beautiful and elegant shape, extraordinary energy efficiency, double-skin façade reminiscent of a thermos bottle and the fastest elevator in the world.
