Shanghai Tower to Host the World's First Women's Vertical Marathon

On the afternoon of May 10, Shanghai Tower held the Shanghai Tower Forum Brand Event and the Press Conference for the 2024 Shanghai Tower Women's Vertical Marathon. It was announced that Shanghai Tower Women's Vertical Marathon as the first sporting event of its kind in the world will be held on June 23.
As the world's first women's vertical marathon event, the 2024 Shanghai Tower Women's Vertical Marathon is guided by Shanghai Chengtou Group Corporation and Lujiazui Administration Bureau, hosted by Shanghai Tower and supported by Samaranch Foundation. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Shanghai Tower Vertical Marathon. On this special occasion, Shanghai Tower has launched the Shanghai Tower Women's Vertical Marathon. Aimed at exploring the expanding female sports group and the booming female sports market, this light sporting event strives to empower women through sports participation, enhancing female participation and influence in the sports industry, injecting more female power into sports activities and stimulating new vitality brought by women. In addition, as a sub-brand of the Shanghai Tower Vertical Marathon, the Shanghai Tower Women's Vertical Marathon will lay a foundation for the improvement of Shanghai Tower's vertical marathon system.
As the ambassador of the Shanghai Tower Vertical Marathon, Juan Antonio Samaranch, Vice President of the International Olympic Committee and Founder and Honorary President of Samaranch Foundation, delivered a speech at the event. In his speech, he congratulated the Shanghai Tower on the launch of a women's vertical marathon event and introduced how Samaranch Foundation has been committed to cultivating sports talents and incubating sports businesses in recent years. In November 2023, Shanghai Tower & Samaranch Foundation International Joint Incubation Base for the Sports Industry was established in the Shanghai Tower, with the aim of jointly advancing international sports and cultural exchanges, promoting Olympic ideals and cultural education, and advocating national fitness and healthy and harmonious lifestyles.
Mr. Samaranch, together with Li Lingwei, Vice President of the Chinese Olympic Committee and Chair of Samaranch Foundation, Zhao Guangsheng, Executive Vice Chairman of Shanghai Sports Federation, Chen Yiqun, Deputy Director of the Information Office of Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and Liang Qing, Deputy Director of Lujiazui Administration Bureau, pressed the launch device to announce the official opening of the registration channel for the 2024 Shanghai Tower Women's Vertical Marathon.
At the press conference, Shanghai Tower announced relevant plans and arrangements of this event: The event will be held on June 23, with F79 to F119 of Shanghai Tower being used as the track. Before the event, a three-day carnival will be held to bring diverse sports and fashionable experience for sports fans. From now on, participants can register through Shanghai Tower's official WeChat account "SHTower" and official website.
According to Mei Xue, a representative of the Organizing Committee of the 2024 Shanghai Tower Women's Vertical Marathon and General Manager of Shanghai Tower Business Operations Co., Ltd., Shanghai Tower hopes to maximize its advantages as a prime example in sporting events to kindle women's enthusiasm in health and sports, build a female sports community, and provide comprehensive support for them at every stage of their sports journey.
At the roundtable forum, Li Lingwei from Samaranch Foundation, Gu Xiaojie from ASICS (China) Trading Co., Ltd. and Renee, a representative of female runners in Lujiazui, discussed the development directions of women's sports from different perspectives based on their own fields. Focusing on the Shanghai Tower Vertical Marathon, they discussed how to create a friendly sports environment for women, development trends of female sports consumption market, and other topics.
As continuous and vigorous progress is made in sports technology around the world, Dr. Tsuyoshi Nishiwaki, Director of ASICS, a honorary sponsor of the event, and Senior Managing Director of ASICS for Greater China, discussed technology development of sports products under the theme of "100,000 Whys for Running Shoes," taking advantage of the new trends of digitalization and technology to kindle people's enthusiasm for sports and make fitness smarter and more interesting.
Shanghai Tower Vertical Marathon is a brand event created by the Shanghai Tower since 2017. Now in its fourth year, it has become the world's largest event in terms of scale, score points, and venue height.
